An Excursion...

It was the night...22nd Nov...the ray of desire was twinkling in all the scintillating eleczions of the 2008-12 batch. Some had a short sleep and some bed adieu to the same. Also some were busy in the preparation. Because tomorrow was the day of the first expedition of our batch....a jaunt to a famous spot 'HARISHANKAR' at the foothills of the GANDHAMARDAN, a mountain in the Western Orissa.

It was 3 o' clock of the following day, the day of the picnic. All got prepared for it. It had been arranged beyond the cognition of the Hostel Authority. So in a silence, we got out of the Hostel. A bus was arranged that was waiting for the advent of our mates. Atlast, the journey started.....

....The delectation picked an exponential
rise with the increasing angular velocity of the wheels. At Bargarh, there was the tea halt. With the sensation of the winter morning, all enjoyed the tea and the journey resumed. Then at 7.30 in the morning, the bus paused at Padampur. We finished our tiffin and did some marketing. On the way we stopped many more times for collection of fuels....What ever it may be, the bus turned towards the Gandhamardan. The anxiety got doubled. Atlast, we arrived at Harishankar...

....What a seen !!! the monkeys and dogs were wandering together.
After arrangement for the cook, we set on the bath in the fountain. Really we enjoyed it a lot. But marking a fullstop to the revelry and merrymaking, an incident happened - Lola faced an accident on the rocks. I have listened from my elders that when someone's enjoyment attains a peak, he has to pay for it....I thought it came true...We took him to the nigh hospital and and he got his wound stitched.

It was the time for lunch..very delicious items were waiting for us. Then after a short rest, we faced towards the hostels. At 9 p.m., we arrived at hostel and it was the day of grand feast in the hostel.

...It was my first picnic in my B.Tech. carrier...with some rapturous delight and some grief, it ended. By the way It will be in my reminiscence throughout my lifetime..

I got caught.........

U may believe or not.........I used to sit in the 3rd row of our class-room in the 1st year...........But to a gradual descend with modification, I am now in the last line of the class.......a front line member of the BBC group. Also to my surprise, now-a-days, I am not interested in the class studies........actually it should happen as a BBC member.

Some classes are there for which nobody(front-benchers I don't count) is interested like.......AEC......OOPS.......O.B.......Mat. Sc.( some of the students)....One day I got bored for the Material Science class and sat on the last bench close to the back door so that I could go outside after getting my attendance.......to avoid attendance back.I did it and came to the CIL lab. But a phone call frightened me...It was from LOLA........"Sukalyan Sir tote dharineichanti, tu jetebele attendance pakeiki paleilu"(Sukalyan sir caught you when u went out of the class after the attendance session).....then I couldn't sit in the lab anymore.....

On reaching hostel, I came to know that Sir has told to report me before Principal. Also when my friends asked sir for the conformation, sir marked my violet shirt(that I wore that day)......I was in a dellemma.......... whether I should meet Sukalyan Sir or not......I couldn't concentrate on my study......and for relaxation, I watched "KAMINEEY" movie that night.......and slept early (at 11.00 pm)........

Finally, I decided to meet sir and confess my guilt. That was a Tuesday....OOPs lab was there...I met sir at the beginning of the lab. Sir looked at me and told "Why had you gone yesterday?" I was speechless.....only requesting not to repeat the mistake again.......But sir scolded me first and then gave me a lot of advice that we should be frank and clear in our words......Sir told " you can go by telling me that I have no interest on study today, so please give me attendance, I want to go."......... "You are an engineer, live like a lion, why do you behave like 2-3 class boys?"........"Though I gave you ample freedom in the South Hostel, You are afraid of me to be frank"......At last I again requested to sir not to take any action against me, but he told he had already reported to the Principal.....I got shocked. Sir assured me that he will request Principal not to take any action (telling that I had confessed my guilt and promised not to repeat it)....I came back...........

Really......Whatever it may seem to you, it is a day that should aquire a place in my reminiscecnce.......It will have a real impact on my life........."I got caught but he taught me a lot".......

At last I became the.....

....BACK-BENCHER...

...."What is the problem if a guy seats on the back bench ?" ...This was the query that I asked myself in the early days of my 3rd semester. Yaa....I am just going to pen down this things because in my initial days of my B.Tech. life, I was thinking of being a first bencher and to listen the teacher sincerely..Probably this idea not only arose in my cerebral hemispheres but also in all the busy and intelligent brains of our university that means my batch-mates...

But in the course of the time, all the strategies got a waste; first one of my room-mates (TULU) made a habit to sit on the last bench. But at that time, I was strong determined. First one I didn't get but sitting on the second bench was a usual practice for me. I have made a partner named SOURAV MOHANTY of IT branch to be with me in the class. Dreaming to be a very obedient student, I continued the same everyday.

.....Meanwhile some of my other friends were also became the back benchers. Whatever it may be, with my partner on the same bench,I passed my first year.. Onwards i entered to the 3rd semester and I lost my partner in class because he had another section. As the others of the 1st three benches were not of my kind, I felt very embarrassing.

.......So at last I changed myself. The guy who was once fond of the 2nd bench, he got addicted to the last bench. The respect to the teachers was no more. Passing comments on the girls became my passion. Sincerity in my studies became the past. But to my unutterable surprise, now-a-days the back-bench seems to be full....vacant places can be seen on the front ones.

.....But for me, it is a craze for the engineering students. "The back benchers don't want to compete with others otherwise the frontiers ( I mean the girls and some others...) will not be a matter of discussion...."- I expressed my speculation....waiting for yours...

The IN-MATES of my room.........

After being the parts of the UCE, three persons took a glance to the room 59 of the South Hostel hardly knew each other before. One was with his parents, other was with his elder brother and the third one with his father (that's me).

In the first meet, asking the 'name and residential address' becomes the first query...........following that, we tried to remember the names and the place the trio belonged to. One was from BBSR named ARPIT & other was TULU from RAYGARAH. In the beginning, I didn't know about them except their introduction. But in the course of time,I came to know a bit about them. As the strike continued till 40 days after our admission, they went to their home & I used to be friendly with my native friends (whom I knew before) and for that,I didn't get that much time to know them.

So friends............U may know the activities of my room-mates but as per the view of discussion, I'm trying to put a flash on them...........but one request that not to be angry with me and my discussion.

...................................................................................................
........................Really I am baffling.....I am in a quandary that from whom I'll start. let's start from the elder (i.e. academically). The boy is named Tulu,an inhabitant of the Raygarah (a district in the southern Odisha). From the point of the complexion, he is fair, probably 5'6'' tall and a bearing a thin figure. He is a very intelligent boy but with some bad habits. The same of Tulu was he used to sleep for a 8-10 hours a day and he was very lazy. Even he used to bathe once in 2-3 weeks. Not only that but he was also doing his nature's call from the window of our room because of the distance of the bathroom from the room (that means we have to cross 4 rooms for going to the toilet). The bunking of class was no more a new thing to him. No........No....He had been visiting the classroom twice or thrice a week but that to comment the girls, also the boys. But as the semester triggered, he became a little bit sincere and studied the whole night on the day before the exam.........this things that I quoted are the past of him.....................Let's go to the the present................

Some ambitions (I don't know exactlly....) changed Tulu a lot. I expect it is the effect of the "SPOKEN ENGLISH & PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT COURSE" done by him during the last Summer mented by Siba Sir, an IAS appeared person. Now-a-days Tulu is able to see the sunshine and can enjoy the morning. He also studies some novels, political books,news-papers to raise his knowledge level high........Because reaching of the pinnacle is not bereft of obstacles. Really he is on the journey to SUCCESS......let's stop at this and switch over to the other.

Arpit, a tall and handsome guy popularly known as 'AKHAA' among my friends. But he rubs us for this new nomenclature. Really to say, his mind is not so matured and most of the time he shows child-like behaviour. A thing is that he tells lie very confidently..........................Hey friends !!!!!! Are you getting bored ? So let's drop the fullstop here.

Now our hostel has been changed from South to West (room no. 12).

Whatever it may be, my roommates are like my family members. They are very cooperative in nature. I really love them a lot............

Hey one request to TULU that you don't attempt to take any action against me.
Please ! Please !! Please !!!

SOUTH HOSTEL...a synonym of life

It becomes the first spark in the first sight of the VSSUTians. Really a home away from home.............our beloved SOUTH HOSTEL. May be for the first time or may not, leaving the parents, the students arrive this VSSUT from remote corners of not only Odisha but also the country for higher studies like B.Tech., M. Tech., MCA and other courses. Taking the admisson, the 1st year students put their first foot steps into the SOUTH HOSTEL after filling the 'entry register'. Caretaker distributes the room no. and room key. Each of the new comers goes to respective rooms & meet the other roommates. Rooms are three seated and well maintained as it drags the first attraction of students. As it is the first meet, some of the roommates feel awkward to adjust but it hardly continues. To know all the hostelmates, it nearly takes 5-6 months within which a semester comes.

The most ability under the discussion bears the fooding system of the hostel. It is supervised by the warden then to the mess manager........a well known person in the UCE family, 'LALU'. We get served a tiffin and two meals a day. When the food tastes very delicious, Lalu doesn't get any credit but to the contrary, if the same is bad, the boarders rub him and drag the situation in quarrel and sometimes strike also takesplace.

Also our canteen drags the attention which is maintained by a very polite and kind hearted man named 'Sesha Mausa'. In the beggining of the session, he prepares a few items like tea, coffee, some breakfasts like snacks & bread. But after the 1st semester, foresighting the demands of the items, he prepares some more varieties. Some students maintain a register known as 'Baki Khata'. It sometimes contains nearly more than 10,000 rupees.

In addition to the above features at the South Hostel, a store of 'Sushant Da' is also there. At the first day of the hostel entry, boarders buy the necessaries from the store. Actually, in that day and the following 2-3 days, he earns a lot. Some of my friends (including me) think that he is a cheater. Whatever it may be, we can't live in the hostel without him and also his store.

In the 2nd semester, the friendship among the hostelmates gets concentrated and most of the students remain busy in 'khatti' (a type of gossip) and rarely study. Also all the functions of college get celebrated in the same semester. So the result seems to be not good in the 2nd semester in comparison to the 1st semester. Also a interesting view that i forgot to explain; that is the phone communication of a few boarders with their g'friends with sweet voices.Actually I don't mention their names here........wait for the next.

Many a obstacle comes in our way but those get crossed by the help of friends. Ragging occurs to some extend but that we enjoy. We live the life in our choice. There is no fence for us. But all those happy moments get a fullstop when the 'Hostel Change' occurs at the end of our 1st year. We lose that freedom.........those friends...........those khatti.........and all those things with which we were acquainted throughout the year. My hearty saying " The god might give us an imperial palace, I couldn't live my life with that much joy and felicitations that I got in the South Hostel."

'LOVE'..........what does it mean ???

'Love'.........a word that means a lot......
Starting from the mythologies up to the modern civilization, the act of love is positioned in a very high position. Love is any of no. of immotions and experiences related to a strong affection and attachment. I am now in my mature state in the means that I am able to distinguish between the good and the bad things that occurs in my surroundings. Also a different type of view comes to my mind when I visualize the happenings........ really this I can feel.

Many a thing I have seen and many decisions I have taken myself.
But the word 'LOVE'- that I couldn't understood yet. I have scrutinized various speculations of my friends those range from my school(high school) up to the B. Tech....

Truly saying, in the very first of my college life, I thought that I have understood it. The then opinion that arose in my mind was " it's is just an attraction that is possessed in a boy for a girl or vice-versa". But I had few friend contact at that time... so I dominated on my opinion.

After twelfth, I prepared for one year. I got my first friend circle...but they had no ideas those I have wanted. after preparation, I joined to the continuing college....oops....a university named V.S.S.U.T., Burla.

For the first time I lived a hostel life, those morning, those friends, those khati, those late night sleeping......ya ..I was far away from these things in my +2 life...

The new friends in my 2nd year may not believe that I was a usual 2nd bencher in the class because now-a-days I have a very close relationship with last bench. Commenting on girls was a very bad thing for me, But now I am a great commenter in the class. What happened to me .....I don't know but my image-conscious nature is gone.

I have seen the boarders wandering on the corridor busy in gossiping with their girlfriends at night....I have also taken the speculations of my friends about the 'LOVE'. Some says it's some sort of attraction.....some says it's the time pass....some says it is done for our fun and revelry. I have seen students succeed in their love....also the unsuccessful ones.

In my view, people take the meaning of 'LOVE' in their own way. But whoever it may be....for what purpose it may be...achieving own love is really a success.... "Is it true what I believe???"....."Are 'LOVE' and 'ATTRACTION' equivalent???".....please answer me....I want to get rid of this dilemma... I am waiting for you...

{ UCE --> V.S.S.U.T. }......A TRANSITION

A college that in my words actually not a college but an organisation where a student can see his / her future was the 'University College of Engineering' shortly known as UCE in all the people who has a little idea about the educational system of our Odisha. By its great achivements (actually the success of the members of UCE family), it had created a very dignitary position among the plum pudding of the institutions throghout the country. The 'Electrical Engineering' department of the college was once the best in not only the Odisha but also in the country. For the "High Voltage Lab", the "electrical dept." in this technical institution was ranked 9th in India. The UCE had the other wings like Civil, Mechanical, E&TC, Manufacturing Sc., Comp. Sc. & IT etc. With all the facilities, well equipped laboratories and the highly renowned mentors, one day it set on a struggle demanding the deemed status. The govt. gave the assurance to make it IIT. But all waitings came to an end; nothing was happened. On the year of 2007, govt. tried to seal the violence by declaring the institution academically deemed. But the students of the same again put the demand with some higher attempts. A boy named Biswajit Parida (pre-final year at that time) caught the rein of the voices of the UCEans and that of all others who loved the UCE atleast once. For this time the govt. could not stay silent. The bill passed in the Assembly ('Bidhan Sabha') and at last the dream came to be a true; the mother UCE became an UNITARY UNIVERSITY; the fourth unitary university of the country. Really the children served to their mother. On the date of 15th February 2009, the then C.M., Sri Naveen Pattnayak inaugurated the "the Golden Jubilee Validiction Ceremony com the V.S.S.U.T. foundation ceremony.
The uce became a university, but still under the delay to post a Vice Chancellor for the only one technical unitary university. A renowned person named Ganapati Panda was appointed as the V.C. but a murmur was heard that he joined the IIT-BBSR. See the activities of Govt. of Odisha......... "being a family member of the UCE-->V.S.S.U.T., I feel proud but not only me but also all members of our vssut family are on a shame to enjoy this felicitation because it seems to be a blunder of our state govt. ( delay in posting a V.C. ....), I think we have to again come out of the den and to roar for our better future..................."
